Bob Dylan And Jack White Are Releasing A Song Together

News Room

A never-before-released live collaboration between Jack White and Bob Dylan is set to see the light of day…nearly 20 years after it was first recorded.

White recently announced that he’s planning on finally releasing a live, collaborative rendition of his song “Ball and Biscuit,” which was initially shared with the world by his band The White Stripes. The recording comes from one of Dylan’s shows at the Detroit State Theatre, which White was a part of after the elder musician reportedly asked him to sit in and join the fun.

Apparently, the special moment began when White went to see Dylan play in Detroit. According to White (via an interview with The Wall Street Journal, cited by Consequence of Sound), the two rockers met and Dylan paid his younger colleague a compliment.

“He said to me, ‘We’ve been playing one of your songs lately at sound checks,’” White stated to the newspaper, adding that he was surprised by Dylan’s comment, and that he “was afraid to ask which one.” He added that it was “such an honor to hear that” from the legendary singer-songwriter.

White then explained that after he got home, he went over the interaction in his mind again, and he realized that the conversation may have been Dylan’s way of asking him to perform the cut with him. White got in touch with a member of Dylan’s band, who seemingly confirmed that suspicion, and the two Grammy winners went on to perform on stage together that night.

The rare live recording of the Dylan and White collaboration, along with The White Stripes’ debut performance of “Ball and Biscuit,” which took place in 2002, will be pressed onto a 7-inch vinyl record.

The special item will be released as part of Third Man Records’ Vault subscription program, and it also includes additional exclusive content. White owns and runs Third Man Records, and the subscription program allows superfans of him and his music, as well as the artists he signs and works with, the chance to own unique offerings like this short set.
