In a somewhat surprising twist, it appears that Britney Spears will not be narrating her own audiobook after all. Instead, the job has gone to an Oscar-nominated actress who has stepped in to lend her talents to perhaps the most highly-anticipated book of the year.
Michelle Williams will narrate the audiobook for Spears’s forthcoming memoir, The Woman in Me. The news of Williams’s hiring was first shared by Variety. The audiobook is scheduled for release simultaneously with the print edition of the book. Both will be available on October 24.
A star in her own right, Williams is a five-time Oscar-nominated actress. She has been up for the golden statue for films like Brokeback Mountain, My Week with Marilyn and most recently, in 2023 for The Fabelmans. She has also won an Emmy for her role in the miniseries Fosse/Verdon and she was once nominated for a Tony Award as well.
Spears will reportedly record an introduction to the audiobook version of The Woman in Me, but Williams will handle the bulk of the work.
The Woman in Me sees Spears sharing her side of her life story, in some ways, for the first time. The title will offer insight into her incredible journey from Louisiana to the top of the charts and the enduring strength that has defined one of the greatest performers in pop music history.
Spears reportedly made $15 million from the sale of the book rights, which eventually went to Simon & Schuster after several major names in the publishing business entered into a bidding war for the title. That makes the pop singer’s book one of the priciest in history.
