BTS Charts A New (Old) Bestselling Album In America

News Room

BTS is currently on a musical hiatus, as the seven members that make up the globe-dominating boy band are all enlisted in the South Korean military. As the singers fulfill their duty in their home country, the group is still not only finding a space on the Billboard charts, they’re actually accruing surprising new wins.

The septet lands a new appearance on this week’s edition of the Top Album Sales chart. The tally features the 50 albums that actually sold the most copies in the prior tracking frame. That makes it distinctly different from the Billboard 200–the more closely-watched albums chart in the U.S.—as that list also incorporates streaming activity.

BTS’s Dark & Wild debuts on the Top Album Sales chart this week, years after it was first released. The title comes in at No. 27, and according to Luminate, the set sold 2,661 copies in the U.S. last frame.

For those not well-versed in BTS’s discography, Dark & Wild is not new, even though it’s only just now appearing on the Top Album Sales chart. In fact, Dark & Wild is actually the band’s first proper studio album. Released in August of 2014, it’s nearing its 10-year anniversary, and clearly fans have started celebrating the project early.

Dark & Wild marks BTS’s fourteenth release to reach the Top Album Sales chart. Among that bunch, six efforts have climbed all the way to the No. 1 spot, and 10 have broken into the top 10. This latest appearance marks the band’s first new placement on the tally in nearly two years. They last debuted a title on the Top Album Sales chart in 2022, when their Proof compilation opened atop the ranking.

BTS scores the sixth-highest-ranking debut on this week’s Top Album Sales chart. Interestingly, they’re not even the only K-pop act to launch a title on the list this time around. NMIXX’s Fe3O4: Break opens at No. 6 with 6,440 copies sold. Dark & Wild also comes in behind new releases from Green Day, Lil Dicky, Neck Deep, and Sleater-Kinney.
