As BTS takes a hiatus to accommodate the mandatory military enlistment some of its members have already started, the individual talents within the group are seizing the opportunity to establish themselves as solo stars. This surge of creative endeavors from the many BTS singers has already led to a series of successful projects. Now, in the midst of this wave of individual accomplishments, BTS’s V has excitedly unveiled his highly-anticipated debut solo collection.
V is getting ready to launch his inaugural solo venture, which is titled Layover. The collection will include six songs, named, “Rainy Days,” “Blue,” “Love Me Again,” “Slow Dancing,” “For Us,” and an additional as-yet-untitled bonus track.
Fans of the band and V himself can mark their calendars for the eagerly-awaited release on September 8. That’s good news for them, as it means they only have about a month before they get to hear the collection in full.
Hints about the thematic elements of the songs on Layover have been offered by V’s record label, Big Hit. From the descriptions shared, it appears that the project will be largely based around an R&B sound, though there are also indications that the collection will interweave elements of pop, which V and BTS are perhaps best known for.
Layover was directed creatively by Hee Jin Min, the CEO of ADOR, a subsidiary of Hybe, a major powerhouse in the K-pop domain. Min played an instrumental role in every facet of the project’s creation, overseeing not only the production of the music but also intricacies such as choreography and design.
Among the members of BTS, V’s upcoming solo release marks him as the latest and one of the final artists to venture into a solo career. Many of his bandmates have already embarked on their solo endeavors, achieving remarkable success. In the year 2023 alone, Suga and Jimin peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart with their individual projects. Both J-Hope and RM also secured significant chart triumphs in 2022 with their respective solo albums. While Jung Kook is yet to unveil a full studio album, he recently achieved a significant milestone by topping the Hot 100 chart with his debut solo single “Seven.”
While preparing to release his first EP, V is no stranger to solo projects. Prior to Layover, he has gifted his fanbase with a handful of songs that offer a glimpse into his distinctive musical identity. His track “Christmas Tree” established V as one of the first members of BTS to reach the Hot 100 chart on his own, a notable achievement in itself. This particular song reached its high point at No. 79 during the festive holiday season in 2021.
