BTS Narrowly Misses Hitting No. 1 On A Billboard Chart

News Room

BTS has not released new music in quite some time, but that hasn’t stopped them from maintaining a near-constant presence on the Billboard charts. The South Korean boy band’s fans have continued to support the group during their hiatus, and this week, their collective efforts almost sent the boy band back to the summit on one ranking.

On this week’s World Digital Song Sales chart, BTS lands very close to the peak position…but they miss it by just one space. The septet’s track “2! 3!” reappears on Billboard’s ranking of the bestselling “world” tunes at No. 2.

BTS are held back from running the show on the World Digital Song Sales chart by Tyla. The South African musician returns to the peak position with her single “Water,” which helped her become a star and won her a Grammy only a few weeks ago. The track jumps from No. 2 back to the top spot.

While BTS might not appear at No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales chart this week, they surely aren’t too disappointed. The band claims the record for the most winners in the history of the ranking. So far, BTS has accrued 37 No. 1 hits on the tally. The second-most-successful act, Blackpink, has pushed nine titles to the highest rung.

“2! 3!” misses out on returning to the No. 1 spot, as it has previously controlled the World Digital Song Sales chart. The tune debuted and peaked at No. 1 in November 2018. Since then, it has only managed a trio of turns on the roster, including this week.

BTS isn’t the only act to find their way to the World Digital Song Sales chart this week. As “Water” runs the show, Tyla’s other hit “Truth or Dare” returns at No. 8, nearly matching its No. 7 peak on the tally. K-pop girl group Le Sserafim score the only debut this time around, as “Smart” launches at No. 9.

While they may fail to rule the World Digital Song Sales chart this week, it hasn’t been very long since BTS last controlled the tally. Last week, they returned to No. 1 on the ranking with “Fake Love,” which also reappeared suddenly. The years-old cut had already reached the penthouse, but fans purchased it in large enough numbers to make it a champion once again.
