BTS singer V joined the ranks of his bandmates by releasing his solo EP, Layover, earlier this month on September 8, becoming one of the last members of the group to produce a complete collection on his own. The short set quickly made its mark on music charts worldwide, boasting impressive sales. Now, after less than a month of availability, the title has achieved historic success in the musician’s home country.
According to the Circle Charts, one of the two most important music charts in South Korea, Layover has already sold more than two million copies. This achievement marks it as one of the bestselling releases by a solo musician in the nation’s history—an incredible feat, especially considering the relatively short time it has been on the market.
Layover made a grand entrance on the Circle Charts, debuting at No. 1 with 1.78 million copies sold across various versions. In its second week on the chart, the EP continued its remarkable performance, adding another 230,000 copies to its impressive sales tally. In just two weeks, the title crossed the significant threshold of two million sales.
V’s EP now stands as the first title from a solo musician to achieve two million sales since the Circle Charts rebranded. Previously known as Gaon, the ranking provider had been a prominent name for many years before undergoing a name change in the summer of 2022.
While some solo musicians in the past have reportedly reached the two million sales mark with specific projects, the focus in recent years has largely been on groups. Artists like Kim Gun-mo, Lee Moon-sae, Kim Jong-hwan, and others have purportedly released albums that achieved at least two million purchases in South Korea, but such accomplishments have become increasingly rare.
As a member of BTS, V already boasts several of the bestselling albums in South Korean history. The group has seen at least eight different releases, including traditional albums, compilations, EPs, and single albums, sell at least two million copies each. Their bestselling title, Map of the Soul: 7, ranks as the third-most-popular release in the country’s history, having surpassed the remarkable milestone of five million copies sold.
