All seven members of BTS are currently enlisted in the military in South Korea, their home country. That hasn’t stopped one of them from scoring a new hit in America, though, as his fan base is still eager to support the superstar as he focuses his efforts on something other than his music career for the moment.
V, one of the seven members of BTS, is back on the Hot 100 this week. The singer’s new single “Fri(end)s” launches at No. 65 on the latest edition of the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S.
“Fri(end)s” marks V’s fourth appearance on the Hot 100–on his own, that is. BTS has accumulated a record 27 hits on the tally. With one more smash to his credit, the superstar ties with three of his bandmates for a special record.
V is now tied for the third-most Hot 100 hits among South Korean solo musicians. He’s currently matched with Suga, Jimin, and J-Hope, who all happen to be members of BTS as well.
Another one of the seven singers in that boy band, Jung Kook, leads all soloists from South Korea. He has thus far collected half a dozen placements on the Hot 100 under his own name. He’s just one win ahead of Psy, who has sent five tunes to the tally.
V first reached the Hot 100 as a soloist in 2022. He debuted on the competitive tally in January of that year with “Christmas Tree,” which had been consumed in healthy numbers around the holiday season, though it didn’t reach the ranking until chart dated in the new year.
In 2023, V released his debut solo album, Layover. That set peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200–like many other projects from his BTS friends–and it produced a pair of Hot 100-charting singles. “Love Me Again” barely cracked the tally, as it peaked at No. 96 in August. A month later, “Slow Dancing” became his highest-rising hit, as it climbed to No. 51.
