Dead & Company Is Being Considered As U2’s Replacement At The Sphere

News Room

U2 is currently in the middle of their ongoing Las Vegas residency, U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere. The rock band recently extended their number of shows once again, due to incredibly high demand. Now, another group is being floated as possible replacements for the Irish rockers after they’re finally done.

The New York Post reports that Dead & Company–also known simply as Dead & Co– is in talks to set up shop at The Sphere. The article states that nothing is certain, but merely that the conversations are happening.

The fact that the team behind booking The Sphere are in talks with Dead & Co isn’t shocking, even if they might not have landed at the top of a list of potential next headliners for the high-tech venue. Following U2, the only other act that has been booked to take to the stage is Phish. The jam rockers are heading to Sin City for a four-night run in a few months, at least to begin with.

Dead & Co share a similar space and fan base as Phish. They are also managed by the same man who manages U2, so they already have an in with The Sphere’s team.

The article states that if Dead & Co were to say yes to a Sphere residency, it likely wouldn’t happen for quite some time. A source told the paper that a string of concerts from the jam rockers wouldn’t take place until at least “next summer.”

Dead & Co is an offshoot band from the Grateful Dead. The newer of the two groups features many of the surviving members of the Grateful Dead, as well as guitarist John Mayer. They have toured extensively for nearly a decade, but they have stated that they’ll never tour again…though that doesn’t mean they aren’t open to shows or even a residency.

There have been several names discussed as possible next headliners for The Sphere since U2 inaugurated the space. In addition to Phish–the only confirmed act–stars like Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney, and Lady Gaga have been rumored to be in talks for the spot. Beyoncé has also reportedly been considering the opportunity, and both her husband and her mother have apparently toured the venue.
