Did The Beatles Just Get Nominated For A Grammy?

News Room

The nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards have been rolling out throughout the morning, and one name stands out as particularly surprising. It’s not because the group isn’t respected–they’ve already won multiple Grammys, actually–but rather because they’ve been broken up for decades.

The Beatles are included in the nominees for Best Music Video. The band’s 2022 visual for their song “I’m Only Sleeping” is in the running for the Grammy. So, does that mean that the Fab Four are back and competing for a prize?

Not exactly. While the “I’m Only Sleeping” treatment is up for the honor, The Beatles aren’t actually nominated. That’s a bit surprising—and confusing—as it’s their music that soundtracks the clip, and their name is on the nomination…but no, they won’t take home more gold if it’s named the champion.

According to a representative for the Recording Academy, since The Beatles weren’t actually involved in the creation of the “I’m Only Sleeping” video, they won’t win a Grammy if voters pick it as the top choice for Best Music Video. Instead, it will go to the directors and producers, whose names are also present on the list of nominees.

Throughout their time together, The Beatles won seven Grammys. The band was nominated for 23 trophies. The group could potentially compete for another award–or maybe several–next year, as they just released a new single. Their track “Now and Then” dropped less than a month ago, and is sure to be in the running at the 2025 ceremony.
