Drake is in charge of the Hot 100 once again this week with his new single “Slime You Out.” The tune, which also features SZA, debuts in first place on the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S., seemingly with ease. As the Canadian rapper scores another immediate winner, he matches with the biggest band in the world in one very important regard.
Drake is now tied with BTS for the most No. 1 songs on the Hot 100 so far this decade. The two musical acts have both snagged half a dozen leaders on the tally. Until this week, BTS was leading in this respect, but now they’re on the same level as the hip-hop powerhouse.
Drake started his run this decade with “Toosie Slide” which hit the top of the Hot 100 in April 2020. He then snagged two more champions in 2021, first with his solo “What’s Next” and then later in the year with “Way 2 Sexy” alongside Future and Young Thug.
The rapper doubled up again in 2022 with a pair of Hot 100 No. 1s. In May of that year, he earned one of his few chart-toppers in a featured role, as he was credited on Future’s “Wait For U” which also named Tems as a musician on the tune. Before 2023 arrived, “Jimmy Cooks” went right to the top with 21 Savage.
Drake has charted half of all of his 12 No. 1 singles in this decade alone. He first hit the top of the tally in 2010 as a featured guest on Rihanna’s “What’s My Name?” It would be six years until he returned to the summit, and since then, he’s added to his career total regularly.
For their part, all of BTS’s Hot 100 No. 1 singles have reached the top spot in the ‘20s decade. The band scored all six of their leaders in just two years, earning a trio of champions in each year.
In 2020, they landed their first No. 1 with “Dynamite” which debuted in first place, making them the first South Korean act to top the tally. Before the year was through, they had also managed to hit the loftiest space as featured act on “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” with Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685. Then, in December 2020, they ruled the ranking with “Life Goes On”.
In 2021, BTS hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 three more times. The band pushed “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” and “My Universe” with Coldplay to the peak of the competitive tally.
