Emmy Nominations Announced, With ‘The Last Of Us,’ ‘Succession,’ And ‘The White Lotus’ Among Nominees

The 75rd Emmy Award nominations were announced this morning in a ceremony that featured actor Nicole Byer and Frank Sherma, Television Academy Chair.

HBO’s Succession garnered the most nominations with 27, followed by HBO’s The Last of Us (24). The While Lotus, also an HBO series, nabbed 23 nominations while Apple

In the comedy category, Abbott Elementary, Barry, The Bear, Jury Duty, The Marvelous Mrs. Masiel, Only Murders in the Building, Ted Lasso and Wednesday will vie for top prize.

On the drama side, the nominated series are Andor, Better Call Saul, The Crown, The House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus and Yellowjackets.

Limited or Anthology series nominated include Beef, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story, Daisy Jones and the Six, Fleischman is in Trouble and Andor.

A total of 38 actors received their first Emmy nomination, including Oscar-winner Jessica Chastain for George & Tammy, Taron Egerton for Black Bird, Jenna Ortega, the lead in Wednesday, and James Marsden, who plays himself in Jury Duty.

Several actors received multiple nominations this year, including Murray Bartlett for The Last Of Us and Welcome To Chippendales, Alex Borstein, as Supporting Actor in a Comedy for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and for her voiceover work in Family Guy. Quinta Brunson is nominated for her work in Abbott Elementary and for hosting Saturday Night Live. Bill Hader garnered three nominations for performance, directing and writing for Barry.

This season, the Emmy Awards celebrates its 75th Anniversary and the nominations were streamed live from the place it all began in 1949, the famed Hollywood Athletic Club.

That ceremony, which featured just five awards categories and $5 admission tickets, has evolved into a large scale ceremony available for viewing around the world.

Now, the Emmys celebrate the age of “peak TV” by highlighting close to 600 original scripted series, the nominations recognizing the importance of the performers, producers, writers, directors, craftspeople, and all those who worked on television programs in the past year.

There are more than 20,000 voting members of the Academy and this year’s nominations marked the highest voter participation in Emmy history.

The 75th Emmy Awards is currently scheduled to be broadcast live on FOX on Monday, September 18, (8:00-11:00 PM EDT/5:00-8:00 PM PDT) from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE.

The 2023 Creative Arts Emmy Awards are currently scheduled to take place at the Peacock Theater over two consecutive nights on Saturday, September 9, and Sunday, September 10. An edited presentation is currently planned to air on Saturday, September 16, at 8:00 PM EDT/PDT on FXX.
