Everything We Know About ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 3 On Netflix

News Room

This week I did one of these “everything we know” about season 3 of Heartstopper, which was relatively easy given its pre-air renewal and its UK filming that will avoid US-based Writers and Actors Strikes. But The Lincoln Lawyer season 3? That’s a bit more complicated.

Right now, both halves of The Lincoln Lawyer have debuted at #1 on Netflix’s Top 10 list when they aired about a month apart, part of Netflix’s desire to split its bigger shows in two in order to have more people return to watch them, though they refuse to go into a full weekly release schedule.

However, we know effectively zero about the fate of The Lincoln Lawyer after this, even if we can make some educated guesses. It did not get pre-renewed ahead of season 2, it did not get renewed in the gap between the two halves of season 2. And it’s not renewed this close to the second half airing.

The first season of The Lincoln Lawyer aired in May of 2022. A month later, in June of 2022, it was renewed for season 2. So if we’re going by those dates, we might hear one way or the other by the beginning of September, if we’re starting from the second half air date.

As for a potential season 3 release date, there were about 15 months between seasons 1 and 2. Normally, that would put us at maybe November 2024 for a season 3 release date, but unlike Heartstopper, this is a US-based series, and would be subject to the Writers and Actors Strikes. This means nothing can be written for season 3 until the WGA strike is resolved, and then nothing could be filmed until the SGA strike is resolved. This will push all shows back, including a potential Lincoln Lawyer season 3.

I have not seen any interviews with the cast about season 3, which is usually what happens after shows like these air, and that is also likely because of the strike rules, where actors cannot talk about/promote their work until after the strike is over. To do so would be crossing picket lines, so we’re hearing close to nothing.

However, The Lincoln Lawyer is adapted from a series of books. We did hear at least one nod from co-creator Ted Humphrey that if season 3 did happen, it would adapt Michael Connelly’s book The Gods of Guilt.

It feels like Lincoln Lawyer will get renewed pretty easily. It’s done well, the cast does not have loads of A-listers in it, the legal nature keeps it grounded with lower costs. This is the kind of thing Netflix loves. It actually reminds me of Suits, the licensed USA show that has done great on Netflix, and I think Netflix wants to make its own series like that. Lincoln Lawyer is a top contender.
