In some years, the musician who will go on to win Best New Artist at the Grammys is known for months before the award is actually handed out, as there is one act who deserves it more than most. In other instances, it’s a total toss-up. The 2024 Grammy Awards are shaping up to be another ceremony that fits into the former category, as one new star burns brighter than any and all competition.
Here are my predictions for the Best New Artist nominees at the 2024 Grammys.

It already seems likely that Ice Spice will not only be nominated for Best New Artist, but win the prize. She came out of seemingly nowhere to rack up several major hits in only the past few months, and people can’t get enough of her. The Grammys have a history of giving this honor to solo female stars, so she’s also got that going for her as well.
Of course, Spice isn’t the only musician worthy of a nomination, nor of winning—she’s just the most likely champion. Fellow new solo women like Coco Jones, Lainey Wilson, Laufey and PinkPantheress—who broke out alongside Spice on the tune “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2”—could all snag nods as well.
Based on my estimations, this year’s Best New Artist race might be focused entirely on solo acts, but there are groups and bands that could break in…though the past year has been flush with exciting talents working on their own scoring hits and wooing the critics.
