‘Invincible’ Season 2 Arrives With Perfect Scores Ahead Of Its Release Date

News Room

It has been over two years since the debut of Invincible season 1 on Amazon Prime Video. Delays because of animation length, COVID and now strikes have finally passed, and season 2 has a release date that’s imminent, Friday, November 3.

We did get the extremely good “Invincible: Atom Eve” origin story this past July to hold us over, but now it’s time for the show to officially return. And by all accounts, it’s incredible.

Critics have been given access to screeners for the first half of the season, the episodes that are going to be airing before a break which will have the last four coming later, some time in 2024, it seems.

At the time of this writing, Invincible season 2 has a perfect 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s just above the also near-perfect 98% that season 1 got. It’s also above The Boys, which have scores of 85%, 97% and 98% respectively for its three seasons. Plus, Gen V’s 97%. But as you can see these are all excellent scores, and Amazon’s newfound reliance on “bad, bloody superheroes” is really paying off in spades.

Robert Kirkman has plans for many more season of Invincible, and now hopefully without the kind of lengthy delays that made up the gap between seasons 1 and 2. The contributing factors there hopefully should have lessened. The show has already been renewed for a third season before season 2 has even aired, which means Amazon has a ton of faith in the series. Supposedly it’s already almost finished being written, according to Kirkman, again, before season 2 has even arrived. Casting is going on as well to fill the roles of new characters who appear.

Invincible as a comic spanned from January 2003 to February 2018 with 144 issues total, so there is a fountain of source material to draw on over time. By most accounts, the series only gets increasingly crazy as time goes on. Season 2 will feature a heavy focus on the multiverse, but not in a bad MCU way. It’s not trend-hopping, as this storyline was written ages ago, and comic readers would tell you that it’s very, very good. Critics seem to agree.

Amazon Prime Video, for all its struggles, has produced some real gems lately, and it’s not from the shows they’re spending the most money on like Rings of Power and Citadel. The best shows lately have been The Wheel of Time, Jack Reacher, Upload, The Boys, Gen V and Invincible. Some aren’t particular cheap, but they are not billion dollar LOTR show either. If they keep focusing on projects like this, they will continue to dig into rivals like Netflix and Max. And lots of seasons of Invincible to come make up a lot of quality arrows in their quiver.
