Jimmy Buffett Scores The Bestselling Song In America

News Room

Whenever a major musician passes away, their fans rush to consume their music however they can. These days, that often means the artist’s catalog surges in terms of both streams and sales, as everyone wants to hear their biggest hits once more. For older acts, sales are usually more popular, and this has certainly proved true when it comes to Jimmy Buffett in the wake of his death.

This week, Buffett scores the No. 1 bestselling song in America, as “Margaritaville” explodes in popularity once more. The tune blasts back onto the Digital Song Sales chart, which weekly ranks the bestselling tracks in America. The smash replaces Oliver Anthony’s “Rich Men North of Richmond” atop the tally after several turns in charge.

“Margaritaville” sold 16,265 copies in the past tracking frame, according to data provided by Luminate. That’s enough for the laidback cut to outpace the controversial former Hot 100 No. 1, as “Rich Men North of Richmond” sold another 14,755 copies.

Buffett isn’t new to the Digital Song Sales chart, but this week is still special for the country/rock musician. “Margaritaville” returns to the tally, having already spent time on the list, but it’s never ranked this high. In fact, the tune now marks his first No. 1 on the chart. Before this week, he had never even reached the top 10 on the list.

“Margaritaville” is all over the Billboard charts this week, as it remains Buffett’s most popular single. Thanks largely to the track’s strong sales figure, it also returns to the Hot 100. The song once peaked inside the top 10, and this frame it’s back inside the top 40 once again. “Margaritaville” is also the No. 1 tune on the purchase-focused Country Digital Song Sales and Rock Digital Song Sales charts as well, bringing Buffett to the summit on those lists for the first time.
