Jung Kook Breaks His Tie With Jimin As He Charts Another No. 1 Hit

News Room

Jung Kook has spent much of 2023 proving how popular he is on his own, and this week is perhaps the best example of how successful the singer can be without his BTS bandmates. As his debut solo album Golden arrives and sends its songs to a number of Billboard charts, the superstar breaks out of a tie with one of the other members of the group that made him famous to claim an all-time title.

“Standing Next To You” serves as the third and latest single from Golden, and it has become a huge win as it arrives. The tune blasts onto the Digital Song Sales chart, the weekly ranking of the bestselling tracks in America, at No. 1.

Jung Kook claims his latest No. 1 hit on the Digital Song Sales chart this week, as “Standing Next To You” opens in first place with 84,000 purchases on storefronts like Amazon
AMZN
and iTunes. Putting that win in comparison, The Beatles’ comeback single “Now and Then” drops to second place this time around with just 16,200 copies sold, according to data provided by Luminate.

“Standing Next To You” marks Jung Kook’s fifth No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart. That’s a new record among solo artists from South Korea. Before this week, Jung Kook was tied with his BTS bandmate Jimin, as both had scored a quartet of leaders. Now, he’s passed his friend in this regard, at least for the time being.

Looking at all K-pop acts and their collection of No. 1s on the Digital Song Sales chart, BTS still rules. The septet has collected a dozen rulers, making them not only the most successful South Korean stars on the tally but one of the most prolific names among all acts.

Jung Kook first hit No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart alongside Charlie Puth on the latter’s single “Left and Right.” Before 2022 was over, he doubled his count of leaders with his own “Dreamers.” In 2023, he’s sent three tracks to the summit, including “3D” with Jack Harlow, “Too Much” with The Kid Laroi and Central Cee, and now “Standing Next To You.”
