Jung Kook Hits No. 1 On A Billboard Chart For The First Time This Week

News Room

Jung Kook’s debut album Golden and the songs featured on it can be seen on a number of Billboard charts this week. As the full-length opens at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and in the top space on the Top Album Sales list, the singer reaches a ranking he’s never appeared on before. In fact, not only does Jung Kook appear on the list for the first time, but he conquers it on his first attempt.

“Please Don’t Change,” a collaboration with DJ Snake, debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart. The weekly ranking tracks the electronic and dance tunes that actually sell the most copies. That differentiates it from other similar tallies, like the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, which takes into account streams and radio play as well.

Jung Kook earns his first champion on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart with “Please Don’t Change.” The tune arrives in first place with 6,350 copies sold, according to numbers shared by Luminate, which helps power the Billboard charts.

As if snagging the No. 1 spot on his first time reaching the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart wasn’t impressive enough, Jung Kook actually claims the highest two spaces on the tally. His other new tune “Closer to You,” which is also a collaboration with genre favorite Major Lazer, starts at No. 2, giving him control over the highest rungs on the roster. That cut opens with nearly 5,900 copies sold.

Jung Kook might not be known for his dance and electronic output, but his new music was popular enough to outsell some major players in the space. The highest three spaces on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart are filled by debuts this time around, as Dua Lipa’s new track “Houdini” opens in third place. The tune may have been unable to best Jung Kook, but that’s partly because her song was released very late in the tracking week. Jung Kook replaces last week’s winner, Kenya Grace’s “Strangers,” at the summit.

Both “Please Don’t Change” and “Closer to You” also sell well enough to launch high on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart. The tunes kick off their time on the tally at Nos. 8 and 10, respectively. Jung Kook actually fills seven of the spaces inside the top 10 on that tally, upping his career count significantly.
