Jung Kook is back inside the highest tier on the Hot 100 with his latest single, “3D.” The tune, featuring rapper Jack Harlow, opens at No. 5 on the tally this week, scoring the top start of the frame. In doing so, the singer achieves a historic feat, one that only two other South Korean acts have accomplished in the past.
“3D” marks Jung Kook’s second top 10 hit on the Hot 100 as a solo artist. He now joins an exclusive club as the third South Korean musical act in U.S. history to appear inside the highest tier on the ranking of the most-consumed songs in America more than once.
Jung Kook first broke into the top 10 on the all-important Hot 100 this summer with his single “Seven,” featuring Latto. That cut was marketed as his debut offering as a solo artist, even though he had appeared on the tally before. “Seven” opened at No. 1 and is still charting, maintaining a presence on the list for months now.
The first K-pop act to score more than one top 10 hit on the Hot 100 was Psy. He narrowly missed becoming the first South Korean act to land a No. 1 when his single “Gangnam Style” peaked at No. 2 in 2012. The following year, he returned with “Gentleman,” which rose as high as No. 5.
The only other South Korean musical act to break into the top 10 more than once is, of course, BTS, the boy band that counts Jung Kook as a member. BTS has so far charted 10 top 10 hits on the Hot 100, with half a dozen of those reaching the No. 1 spot.
The only other South Korean artist to chart a top 10 on the Hot 100 is fellow BTS star Jimin. His single “Like Crazy” also debuted at No. 1 earlier this year. While Jimin has yet to collect another top 10 hit, he could potentially become the next name to join this exclusive club.
