Jung Kook Matches One Of His Most Important Hot 100 Records

News Room

Jung Kook broke out on his own in a major way in late 2023 with his first solo album and a string of hits. While he’s on a career hiatus, his music is still performing well in America, and now he’s reached a very important milestone with one of his biggest wins.

“Standing Next to You” is still charting on the Hot 100 this week after months on the tally. The Hot 100 is Billboard’s ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. The roster uses a methodology that combines sales, streams, and radio airplay to show what Americans are listening to, and Jung Kook is performing well enough in all three metrics to continue to find space on the list.

As of this frame, “Standing Next to You” has now lived on the Hot 100 for 17 weeks. The catchy pop cut is now tied as the second-longest-charting song of all time by a South Korean solo musician in the history of the important and competitive ranking.

With a seventeenth turn on the Hot 100, “Standing Next to You” is now tied with another one of Jung Kook’s biggest hits. In 2022, he and Charlie Puth teamed up for “Left and Right,” which also spent 17 frames on the tally. “Standing Next to You” was the higher-rising of the two, as it reached the top 10 while “Left and Right” stalled just below the top 20, but for the moment, they’re matched in this one way.

Jung Kook still has a long way to go before it comes close to matching the all-time record of the longest-charting single by a South Korean solo musician in U.S. history. That honor still belongs to Psy, who set the bar very high more than a decade ago. His breakout smash “Gangnam Style” racked up 31 stays on the Hot 100. So far, no other track by a soloist from the Asian nation has reached 20 turns.

Currently, “Standing Next to You” is falling down the Hot 100. This week, it slips from No. 81 to No. 87. It doesn’t have much more room to decline before it’s removed from the chart entirely. It looks like the cut will disappear from the ranking in the coming weeks, so while it may have become Jung Kook’s best showing, it doesn’t appear to have a great shot at matching Psy’s smash.

“Standing Next to You” was the third and final single from Jung Kook’s debut album on his own, Golden. The track debuted and peaked at No. 5 on the Hot 100, becoming his third top 10 on his own and his third such smash from the set. The title also produced a No. 1 in “Seven” with Latto and another top five win with “3D” featuring Jack Harlow.
