Just two weeks after releasing his latest solo single, Jung Kook is back with another tune. This time, it’s not a track he fronts, but rather one he’s featured on, and it was co-written by one of the biggest pop stars in history.
Jung Kook is featured on The Kid Laroi’s new single “Too Much,” which was released late in the day on Thursday (October 19). The tune also credits English hip-hop musician Central Cee, who is just starting to break in America after making it big in the U.K.
“Too Much” was written by a number of high-profile hitmakers, such as Emile Haynie, Oma Fedi, Blake Slatkin, and perhaps most notably, Justin Bieber. The pop icon is friends with Laroi, and the two scored a No. 1 hit with their collaboration “Stay,” so it’s not entirely shocking that they worked together on this single.
“Too Much” serves as the latest single from The Kid Laroi’s forthcoming album, The First Time. The Australian singer has been doling out tracks from the project throughout 2023, with some of them finding limited commercial success in certain markets in the world. With Jung Kook on board, “Too Much” is in a better position to perform well on charts everywhere, as he has already scored several hits this year.
This new single comes as Jung Kook is in the middle of ramping up promotion for his upcoming debut solo album, Golden. The set is due on November 3, when the third official single from the project, “Standing Next to You,” will also be promoted.
Ahead of Golden, Jung Kook has dropped two singles, and both have become international smashes. He officially launched his solo career with “Seven,” which features rapper Latto. That tune debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, making Jung Kook one of a very small number of South Korean acts to top the tally.
Less than a month ago, Jung Kook returned to the chart with “3D,” the second single from Golden. That cut, a collaboration with hip-hop artist Jack Harlow, arrived at No. 5 on the Hot 100, bringing him back to the top region on the tally one again.
Based solely on the success of his solo singles, Jung Kook may be headed for another Hot 100 win with “Too Much.” Where the track will debut on the Billboard charts in a week–if it manages to do so, that is–will be announced in more than seven days, at which point all three acts could collect another big hit in America.
