Jung Kook’s Reign Ends As Doja Cat Scores The No. 1 Song In The World

News Room

After nearly two months in charge, Jung Kook and Latto’s chart-topping hit “Seven” has been dethroned from the top spot on the Billboard Global 200 chart. This frame, it is replaced by a new smash that’s taking the world by storm.

Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red” ascends to claim the coveted top spot on the tally, rising just one spot. In doing so, it ends Jung Kook and Latto’s seven-week reign atop the competitive and worldwide list of the most-consumed tunes.

“Paint the Town Red” garnered an impressive 84 million streams in the past week, according to Billboard. Additionally, the track sold 12,000 copies within the same period. The Billboard 200 takes into account both streams and sales when ranking tunes in terms of total consumption.

Jung Kook’s “Seven,” which credits rapper Latto in a featured role, gracefully descends to the No. 2 position on this week’s Billboard Global 200. This transition marks the end of an era on the chart, as “Seven” ranks as one of the longest-running leaders of all time on the tally.

“Paint the Town Red” secures Cat her very first No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200. She has already scored half a dozen top 10s on the list, but until now, none of them were popular enough to run the show.

At the same time that “Paint the Town Red” becomes the top tune in the world, the song also claims the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 chart in the United States. It becomes the rapper’s second champion on that list, following 2020’s “Say So” with Nicki Minaj.

“Paint the Town Red” serves as the second single from Cat’s forthcoming new album Scarlet. The set is expected to arrive on Friday, September 22. Ahead of its release, she has already shared another, even newer single, “Demons,” which could become a chart hit any day now.
