Miley Cyrus Continues To Make Radio History With ‘Flowers’

News Room

Miley Cyrus released what would go on to become the biggest hit of her career earlier this year when she dropped her single, “Flowers.” Since arriving in January, the cut has gone on to break records and prove that even after more than a decade in the music industry, Cyrus still has the power to create a real radio smash.

“Flowers” is steady at No. 1 once again on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart this week. The ranking lists the singles that reach the largest audience at adult contemporary radio stations across the United States every week. This frame, “Flowers” earns its twenty-eighth turn at No. 1.

As “Flowers” racks up its twenty-eighth week at No. 1, Cyrus ties with another sturdy hit as the third longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Adult Contemporary chart. Currently, the pop singer is on the same level as Uncle Kracker and Dobie Gray’s single “Drift Away.” The track also racked up 28 weeks atop the tally before falling down the list, starting its successful run 20 years before Cyrus.

There are only two songs that have lived at No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for longer than both Cyrus’ “Flowers” and Kracker and Gray’s “Drift Away.” Currently, the longest-running No. 1 of all time is Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You.” That tune earned 36 stays in first place. Just one frame behind that pop cut comes another as The Weekend’s “Blinding Lights” remained at No. 1 on the tally for 35 weeks.

“Flowers” is still growing to this day, especially at the more mature side of pop radio, so it wouldn’t be odd to see the track hold on at No. 1 for at least another week or two, if not longer. In only a matter of hours, the tune may very well break its tie with “Drift Away” and earn the keep of the third-longest running No. 1 hit of all time entirely to itself.
