Viewers like Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, but they like her better when she’s with her husband, Prince Harry.
The woman formerly known as Meghan Markle debuted her new show, With Love, Meghan, on Netflix on March 4. It bowed to solid viewership, but the audience was nowhere near the big turnout who tuned in for Harry & Meghan in 2022.
With Love, Meghan drew 526,000 households, according to data culled by Samba TV, a TV tech company that measures audience data. Those numbers include live plus five-day viewership of the program since its premiere.
By comparison, that was barely a quarter of the viewership that Harry & Meghan drew in a smaller window (live plus three days) when it bowed. The show posted 2.1 million households.
Who was most interested in the Duchess of Sussex’s latest TV outing? Samba found that Generation X households (adults 45-54) over-indexed by 4%, meaning they were slightly more likely than average to watch the program.
Clearly Netflix was satisfied with the buzz and interest in the new series. Meghan announced on Instagram a few days after With Love, Meghan’s debut that it will return for a second season.
With Love, Meghan Guests And Reviews
Meghan Markle has always been a polarizing figure in the media. She was—many would argue quite unfairly—vilified by British tabloids, which played a role in the decision made by the Duke and Duchess to move out of the UK.
Many people piled on Meghan, an American, when the couple left in 2020, again seemingly unfairly. When Harry & Meghan bowed two years later, audiences wanted to see what they would say about their own personal Brexit.
So the hype around that show undoubtedly drove the bigger audience. The couple signed a $100 million, five-year deal with Netflix in 2020, but this show featured Meghan and many of her celebrity friends as she hosted them.
Harry does make an appearance in the final episode. He starred in two other series (Heart of Invictus and Polo) as part of the Netflix deal.
With Love, Meghan guests include Mindy Kaling, Vicky Tsai, Abigal Spencer, Daniel Martin, Tracy Robbins, Alice Waters and more.
As you might expect of a show where the lead is as famous as she is, With Love, Meghan reviews have ranged from mild to savage. It has a 33% Rotten Tomatoes rating, which is quite low, and just a 2.8/10 on IMDb.
