Nicki Minaj is no stranger to MTV’s flagship award show, the Video Music Awards, and now she’s officially returning to the show—and she’s slated to pull double duty this year.
The superstar rapper is set to dazzle viewers and the audience in attendance at the show once again, gracing the stage and wielding the emcee’s microphone at the 2023 VMAs. The show is slated to air on MTV on Tuesday, September 12.
Minaj co-hosted last year’s VMAs alongside fellow hip-hop powerhouses LL Cool J and Jack Harlow. In 2022, she also performed as well, showcasing a medley of her biggest hits as she was honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award for her outstanding contributions to the music industry.
This time around, Minaj is taking to the main stage to perform her brand new single, “Last Time I Saw You.” The tune was only released a little over a week ago, and it is expected to debut on the Billboard charts in a matter of days. The rapper’s performance at one of the most highly-watched and talked-about musical award shows will likely help give the new cut a boost, and it could climb on the charts the following frame.
Minaj could also walk away with more prizes, as she is up for half a dozen moon men this year. She’s in the running in categories like Artist of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, Best R&B and Video of the Year for her previous single “Super Freaky Girl.”
This year’s VMAs are shaping up to be another fun showing, with a star-studded cast of performers that includes the likes of Anitta, Demi Lovato, Doja Cat, Kelsea Ballerini, Karol G, Lil Wayne, Måneskin, Olivia Rodrigo, Stray Kids and Tomorrow X Together.
The nominees for this year’s trophies feature an impressive lineup of many of the biggest stars in music, with Taylor Swift leading the pack with 11 nominations. She is followed closely by SZA, who boasts eight nods. Blackpink, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Minaj and Rodrigo each claim six nominations.
