NSYNC returned to the Billboard charts for the first time in decades last week with their new single “Better Place.” The tune marked a comeback of sorts for the boy band, though they seemingly only have plans to release this one track. Now, just one frame later, the cut has advanced on an important Billboard chart, bringing the group back to the highest reaches in a long time.
“Better Place” shoots up the Adult Contemporary chart, the weekly ranking of the best-performing tracks at adult contemporary radio stations across the U.S. NSYNC’s new release rises from No. 13, where it debuted last frame, to No. 10.
As their new single continues to advance, NSYNC scores their first top 10 radio hit in more than 20 years. They haven’t reached the highest tier on any of Billboard’s radio-focused lists since 2002. That year, the band scored their last major hit with “Girlfriend,” a collaboration with rapper Nelly. That tune became a big win on a number of rankings just before the group split.
“Better Place” marks NSYNC’s fourth top 10 hit on the Adult Contemporary chart. They have broken into the top region on the radio list with their new smash, as well as “Music Of My Heart” with Gloria Estefan and “(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time On You,” which both stalled at No. 2 on the tally. Their other big win, “This I Promise You,” ranks as their only career leader.
NSYNC scored a coup with their comeback single when it arrived last week. “Better Place” was a quick win on all three of Billboard’s pop radio charts, peaking at No. 16 on the Pop Airplay list and No. 11 on the Adult Pop Airplay tally. It also launched at No. 25 on the Hot 100, the all-encompassing ranking of the top-consumed titles in the country.
“Better Place” serves as the lead single from the soundtrack that accompanies the forthcoming animated movie Trolls Band Together. Timberlake has contributed songs to all three films, even earning an Academy Award nomination for the first smash from the franchise, “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”
