NSYNC fans around the world have been buzzing with excitement ever since the iconic boy band reunited recently, for their first new song in 22 years. Less than a week ago, the group dropped “Better Place,” which was written and recorded for the new animated film Trolls Band Together.
In the days since the especially poppy “Better Place” arrived, fans of the beloved boy band have been wondering—especially on social media—whether the group has more in the works. What about another song? An album? How about a long-awaited tour?
Now, one of the members of NSYNC, Joey Fatone, has offered a glimmer of hope and hinted at the possibility of a new album. In an interview with Yahoo, the musical star and TV host refrained from ruling out the prospect of more NSYNC music…though fans shouldn’t get too excited just yet.
He stated, “You never know. I can actually say, ‘You know what? That’s a possibility — 2025, that’s a possibility.’” Fatone quickly added that it wasn’t entirely up to him, and that there are “four of the guys I have to talk to about that.”
Undoubtedly, creating a full album is no small feat, and Fatone shed light on the complexities involved in the process, which may help explain why one might never materialize. Fatone explained, “That takes time… If you’re doing a whole album, you’ve got about 13 or 14 songs, then you want to do about probably 30 or 40, because you don’t know which ones you really want to pick.”
Fatone also emphasized the importance of collaboration within the group, saying, “And now you’ve got five other guys that got to figure out what’s going on. That’s just the music itself.”
As for a tour, that’s not easy, either. Fatone made light of the hard work that goes into working on the kind of trek that NSYNC would surely want to mount if they reunited for more than one tune. “Think about how long Taylor Swift’s tour probably took to build,” he joked, though he makes a good point.
Rumors and reports have circulated suggesting that Justin Timberlake, the breakout star from NSYNC whose departure from the band to pursue a solo career essentially ended their tenure as the biggest vocal act on the planet, may not be interested in a full-fledged NSYNC reunion. He is busy with his own acting and music career, and chances are this comeback made more sense in a limited sense, as it worked with the storyline in the new Trolls movie and it has become a media sensation, which will only help the film and “Better Place” succeed.
If “Better Place” performs well, there’s no telling what the future may hold for NSYNC, but one track and a few comments from some of the members shouldn’t convince fans that anything is promised.
