We have been through countless sets of rumors about who exactly the MCU is about to cast in the roles of the Fantastic Four, something that now with the strikes over, could actually be spilled pretty soon here.
One of the names that has come up somewhat frequently as being considered for Sue Storm is Vanessa Kirby, the actress who broke out in earnest in The Crown, and was most recently seen across from Tom Cruise in two different Mission Impossibles.
Kirby was recently questioned on the red carpet about landing the role of Sue Storm, with the Variety interviewer trying to be tricky asking like it was already, definitely going to be announced that she got the part.
Kirby gave an answer that I would compare to Rachel Brosnahan being asked the same question right before she was cast as Lois Lane, probably after she already knew she was. Here’s Vanessa Kirby first:
“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask them. I would be very honored to join.”
And here’s what Brosnahan said asked the same question about Lois Lane:
“I mean, look, take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt is my first piece of advice. Look, it would be extraordinary. I grew up watching Lois Lane, this incredibly talented journalist, far from a damsel in distress, and I would jump at the chance if it arose.”
A longer answer from Brosnahan there, but similar in sentiment. Kirby saying “I don’t know” in response to a question about whether or not she’s been cast seems like…something you probably shouldn’t be saying if you were cast, but it feels extremely similar to Brosnahan’s deflection.
Kirby would be a great pick. She’s clearly got the look, she’s been stellar in everything I’ve seen her in, and she stole the show in MI: Dead Reckoning recently. She’s a star but not a crazy big star like Margot Robbie, who was a Sue Storm rumor in the past.
As for the other three? I’ve lost track of the rumors at this point. I think the latest was that Marvel was trying to get Jake Gyllenhaal as Reed Richards, despite him already playing Mysterio in the universe before. The other two, I’ve lost count of the list of names.
With Fantastic Four likely pushed back due to the strikes, these announcements may not be as imminent as people were hoping. But yeah, with this answer, I’m leaning toward Kirby here.
