News Room

Hip-hop musician Tekashi 6ix9ine has been arrested in the Dominican Republic, according to ABC News. The rapper was taken in by authorities in the country and will be charged with domestic violence.

The artist, who is also known simply as 6ix9ine, was expected in court in the Dominican Republic on Thursday (January 18). He was arrested the day prior and held in the country’s capital of Santo Domingo. Whether or not he will be released on bail has reportedly not been decided by a judge presiding over the case yet.

According to TMZ, the rapper reportedly assaulted his girlfriend, fellow musician Yailín la Más Viral. The outlet claims that he was arrested for “physical and psychological violence” against his partner.

This is just the latest incident in a long line of brushes with the law on 6ix9ine’s part. Back in 2015, the rising rapper pled guilty to a charge of use of a child in a sexual performance. He was reportedly inappropriate with a 13-year-old girl as part of a music video which was distributed online.

6ix9ine also pled guilty to hiring a friend to shoot at fellow hip-hop musician Chief Keef in 2018. While the rapper wasn’t struck, 6ix9ine had ordered the possible hit and paid someone $20,000 for the job.

This isn’t even the first time that 6ix9ine has been accused of a violent offense. His ex-girlfriend Sara Molina stated that he beat her on multiple occasions during the years they were together. In 2019, he admitted to some of the claims in a cooperation agreement with the U.S. government.

Just last year, 6ix9ine was arrested in the Dominican Republic for a similar charge. He was accused of assaulting a pair of music producers that he and his girlfriend had been working with.

6ix9ine found major commercial success for a few years, but lately, his antics have overshadowed his musical output. He has charted a trio of top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, though his 2023 release failed to chart. He’s also sent three singles into the top 10 on the Hot 100, even scoring a No. 1 with Nicki Minaj on “Trollz” back in 2020.
