The new Telugu film Salaar Ceasefire scored big at the ticket windows in three days since its release and has secured the third spot on Comscore’s
SCOR
Starring Prabhas (Bahubali star), Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan in lead roles, the film also features Tinnu Anand, Jagapathi Babu, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy and Ramachandra Raju in important roles. The film made an opening nett collection of $11.7 million in India (all five languages). The collection for the Hindi dubbed version stood at $1.9 million while the original Telugu version collected $8 million. The film grossed nearly $13 million in India and a little less than $20 million worldwide.
Salaar Ceasefire saw a major dip at the ticket windows on the second day, Saturday, making a total of $6.8 million nett in India. The two-day gross collection for the movie in India stood at $20 million while the global gross touched $30.5 million.
The film released just a day after Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki hit theatres and both films have had a good share of the revenue at the box office. Ahead of the releases, media reports claimed dispute amongst the distributors over sharing of screens as Dunki and Salaar Ceasefire were set to hit theatres just a day apart. Reports claimed that makers alleged multiplex chains were favoring Khan’s film. PVR-INOX, one of the biggest cinema chain in India, denied the reports in a press statement a day before the release.
Directed by Prashanth Neel, of KGF Chapter 1 and KGF Chapter 2 fame, Salaar Ceasefire has crossed the $5 million-mark in the US markets alone, ranking at the fifth slot on Comscore’s list for top scoring movies in the USA. The film released across 800 screens in North America. Neel’s new film follows a duo dedicated in their friendship, and love for each other. The first part of a three-film franchise, Salaar Ceasefire showcases how and why the ceasefire came into being in the fictional land of Khansaar. One of them is the prince of the region while the other one is a mere tribesman.
The film is a treat for the typical star fans – both Prabhas and Sukumaran have enough screen space as well as bandwidth in the movie to enamor their fans who love each and every move they make. However, it does not offer much to the audience looking for too much beyond the scope of style, aura and larger-than-life charisma.
Salaar Ceasefire is a nearly three-hour-long saga of violence, unexplained and untriggered more often than not. It also avoids focusing much on emotions and bonding among the characters and heavily uses gory sequences and over-the-top, dialogues for the shock value. The bonding between the friends Devaratha (Prabhas) and Varadha (Sukumaran) is warm, but the film leaves a lot of room for a better camaraderie among the lead actors.
