Stray Kids returned just a few days ago with their new project, Ate. The EP was released on Friday (July 19), and fans immediately flocked to the short set’s lead single.
In the days since Ate dropped, “Chk Chk Boom” has been streaming—and especially selling—well. The South Korean boy band isn’t taking any chances with the tune’s future chart performance, as they are looking to bolster the title’s first-week sales sum with a tried-and-true tactic.
Stray Kids released several new versions of “Chk Chk Boom” just a short time after the original single arrived, and fans are buying them all in sizable sums. At the moment, five versions of the tune are selling well enough to appear inside the top 40 on iTunes’ ranking of the bestselling songs in the U.S.
At the time of writing, the original “Chk Chk Boom” ranks as the bestselling. The single sits at No. 20 on the American iTunes chart, though it is falling. It has previously cracked the top 10, beating a number of exciting new releases.
Four more takes on the same single are living inside the top 40 on iTunes. The Deadeye and Heatwave versions of “Chk Chk Boom” currently land at Nos. 31 and 32, respectively. The instrumental settles just one space below another take, filling positions Nos. 35 and 36.
Yet another “Chk Chk Boom” is also present on the iTunes ranking, though it isn’t selling as well as the aforementioned editions. The Festival version of the song comes in at No. 75, but it could rise in the coming hours and days.
It’s not unusual for superstars these days to release multiple versions of the same song. Billboard counts all slight variations, including remixes, live, acoustic, instrumental, and other, similar takes on one title as one charting entity. The more editions released, the more chances for fans to buy, and to make a new drop a smash.
