Venom: The Last Dance is the conclusion to Sony’s Venom trilogy, clearly separating Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock from his beloved parasite, but leaving the door open for Venom to return.
Warning—Spoilers Ahead
What Happens At The End Of ‘Venom 3: The Last Dance’?
The Venom trilogy played its best antagonist card early with Carnage, so The Last Dance introduces lesser gooey villains known as the “xenophages,” along with the world-conquering, Thanos-like foe known as “Knull,” creator of the symbiotes.
The final scene sees Eddie and Venom chased down by the xenophages at Area 51, where the government has been tinkering with the symbiotes to create weapons. Eddie and Venom free the imprisoned symbiotes, then are overwhelmed by a pack of xenophages, who can swallow symbiotes like jello.
After they are overwhelmed by the creatures, Venom separates himself from Eddie’s body and absorbs every single xenophage, before placing himself under a powerful acid nozzle and taking a deadly shower, sacrificing himself to destroy the xenophages and save his best buddy.
Venom’s body is completely dissolved by the acid, but there is another symbiote left—Agony, the purple speedster with tendril hair who has latched on to Juno Temple’s Dr. Payne.
Eddie, finally removed from his friend, mourns the loss of Venom, heading to New York City to reminisce on the good times they shared. Interestingly, this is Spider-Man’s territory, but its unclear if the web-slinger will ever appear in the Venom-verse.
As for Venom and Eddie, the two appear to be permanently separated, as Tom Hardy and director Kelly Marcel have both insisted that this really is the last dance for Venom.
However, this is a comic book movie, and Venom is a very popular character; thus, his death is likely temporary.
Does Venom Die In ‘Venom 3: The Last Dance’?
As Venom is doused in acid, he bids farewell to Eddie, but notably, he says, “goodbye for now,” which is a callback to an earlier moment in the film, and a clear indication that the character will return.
Venom can survive as long as a drop of symbiote-slime remains, and splatters of Venom are still scattered across the multiverse. One piece of Venom was left in the MCU after Spider-Man: No Way Home, and another drop was left in a bar in Mexico during the events of The Last Dance.
However, these droplets might not even matter—this is a comic book franchise, and Venom can be resurrected using time travel, science, or magic.
Is The Sinister Six Still Happening?
The Sinister Six—essentially the Avengers of Sony’s Spider-Man villain-verse—has been trying to get off the ground for several years.
With the threat of the powerful villain Knull, teased during The Last Dance post-credits scene, it appears that the groundwork is laid for a future team-up film.
Sony assembled its own cinematic universe, which is, confusingly, loosely connected to the MCU, and the animated Spider-Verse, but only occasionally overlaps with these franchises.
The next entry in this franchise is Kraven the Hunter, which will arrive on December 13, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Given that previous installments include the much-memed Morbius and Madame Web, a Sinister Six movie might be a bit ambitious. However, Venom has proved a surprisingly successful trilogy, even if The Last Dance has slipped somewhat.
Venom has thrived without his iconic adversary, Spider-Man, and much of his success can be attributed to Tom Hardy, who gave an incredible, bizarre performance as Eddie Brock, and a memorable voice for Venom.
If Sony’s cinematic universe is set to continue, Venom will surely be there.
