The Rolling Stones have kept fans waiting for nearly two decades for a new album of fresh material, so, unsurprisingly, the anticipation for the next chapter in their storied career has reached a fever pitch. The band officially confirmed at a press conference held on Wednesday in London what had been swirling in the rumor mill: A new album is on the horizon, and the event promised a slew of delightful surprises.
Arguably the most jaw-dropping revelation to emerge was that Lady Gaga is slated to be featured on a track titled “Sweet Sound Of Heaven.” While reports suggest that there will be other high-profile guests gracing the album, Gaga’s involvement is the most prominent name disclosed thus far.
The Rolling Stones’ eagerly anticipated new album is titled Hackney Diamonds, and fans can grab a copy on October 20. The set marks the rock band’s first collection of original material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang. Since then, the group gave fans a blues covers compilation titled Blue & Lonesome, which promptly claimed the top spot on charts across the globe and earned them yet another Grammy Award.
At the same time the band confirmed Hackney Diamonds, they also dropped the set’s lead single. The tune, titled “Angry,” comes with a music video starring actress Sydney Sweeney, the Emmy-nominated star of TV shows like The White Lotus and Euphoria.
Adding an extra layer of celebrity to the already highly-anticipated event, the press conference was hosted by none other than Jimmy Fallon. Hackney Diamonds was produced by super producer and hitmaker Andrew Watt, whose impressive track record includes a recent Hot 100 chart-topper with BTS member Jung Kook. Watt has also collaborated with music icons like Ozzy Osbourne and Iggy Pop, as well as pop sensations such as Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.
The breadcrumbs leading to Hackney Diamonds were first dropped last month through advertisements placed in a local newspaper. Remarkably, even the publication’s editor was unaware that the band was employing the outlet to tease their forthcoming project. Fans keenly noticed the advertisement for a fictitious company that cleverly incorporated many of the group’s greatest song titles, and the rumor immediately went viral.
