The screen-matched Sandtrooper helmet from the legendary Jedi mind trick scene in the original 1997 movie Star Wars: A New Hope, is the jewel in the crown of Propstore’s upcoming entertainment memorabilia auction in London, England.
The item is prominently featured in the scene where Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO, and R2-D2 are heading into the spaceport of Mos Eisley and are stopped by a squad of stormtroopers looking for the droids carrying the plans for the Death Star. The helmet is expected to sell between $312,500 and $625,000 (£250,000 to £500,000).

The Sandtrooper helmet is not the only fantastic piece of memorabilia from the multibillion-dollar franchise going under the hammer at the event. Yoda’s cane from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi is also up for sale and has a guide price of $25,000 to $50,000 (£20,000 to £40,000).
With the long-awaited and highly anticipated Gladiator II landing in theaters on Friday, November 22, 2024, director Ridley Scott’s 2000 original is back in movie fans’ and collectors’ hearts and minds. That could translate into a lot of interest in another lot in the auction: the Gladiator Arena helmet and mask worn by Russell Crowe’s Maximus in the five-time Oscar-winning classic. It’s expected to find a new home for $125,000 to $250,000 (£100,000 to £200,000).
That’s not only the instantly recognizable piece of movie costuming listed for sale. Michael Keaton’s Batsuit from Batman Returns has a price tag of $125,000 to $250,000 (£100,000 to £200,000), while Marty McFly’s screen-matched 2015 resizing jacket, as worn by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future Part II is expected to sell for between $75,000 and $150,000 (£60,000 to £120,000).
Suppose horror is more your bag, and you are looking to invest. In that case, the hat that Kurt Russell donned in John Carpenter’s classic The Thing is listed and has an estimated sale price of $50,000 to $100,000 (£40,000 to £80,000). The Ghostface mask worn by Henry Winkler’s Principal Arthur Himbry in the original Scream movie could be in your collection for $37,500 to $75,000 (£30,000 to £60,000).
Have you ever wanted to have the chance to own The Dread Pirate Roberts’ mask that adorned the face of Cary Elwes in The Princess Bride? As you wish. It’s included in November’s Propstore auction with a handsome guide price of $12,500 to $25,000 (£10,000 to £20,000).
Elsewhere, fans of Hollywood creature features will be delighted to hear that several items from the exceptional Ray Harryhausen Collection are listed in the auction, including lots from the animator’s private archive. One such item, the third priciest listed item in the sale, is the Kali lighting stand-in model from the 1973 film The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. Some lucky person will get to walk with that in their arms for something in the region of $125,000 to $250,000 (£100,000 to £200,000). Harryhausen, a legendary stop motion model animator, passed away in 2013.
If you’re interested in participating in the auction, registration is now open, and online bidding will open on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. In-room bidding at BAFTA HQ will be open to the public, but if you can’t be there in person, bids can be placed online and via telephone throughout the three-day event.
