News Room

Looking for Sunday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

Well, dearest Wordlers, Monday has returned. The weekend rushed past, brief as they come. So it goes. Still, there really isn’t much time left before Christmas break. Not much time to get all that Christmas shopping done, that’s for sure. I’m a very last minute type shopper. I really don’t like gift days. I like giving gifts, but I’m sort of spontaneous about it. When I have to actually sit down and come up with a gift I can really struggle.

Anyways, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Toss, hurl.

The Clue: This Wordle is past tense.

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I found this a bit tough today, though I got pretty lucky. CLOUD left me with just 28 words left, and I wanted to guess a second word with ‘A’ but I really couldn’t think of anything that made sense, so I went with FLUSH (I was thinking about poker earlier since we were having game night and last time we had game night we played poker) and that got me three green boxes. But I still could think of so many words, so I tried to narrow it down with GNOME (despite the ‘O’ already being out) and this actually worked quite well. Only FLUNG remained. But Wordle Bot told me that if the Wordle had been FLUTE, two possible solutions would have remained after GNOME. Good thing it wasn’t FLUTE, what a FLUKE that would have been!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot, who guessed in three today. Oh well!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “flung” is the past tense and past participle of the verb “fling”, meaning to throw forcefully. Its etymology traces back to Old Norse “flengja”, meaning “to whip” or “to beat,” which evolved into Middle English as “flingen”, carrying the sense of hurling or casting something. This Norse origin reflects the strong influence of Scandinavian languages on English during the Viking Age.
