Looking for Monday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

It’s the very first Wordle Wednesday of the month of March. On Wednesdays, I give out a special challenge—some riddle or brain-teaser or logic puzzle—in order to keep things interesting. Here’s today’s:

The Great Race of EldoriaFour legendary creatures—a griffon, a wyvern, a centaur, and a dire wolf—set off from the enchanted city of Eldoria toward the distant Crystal Peak, each traveling at their own pace.

  • The griffon flies at a speed of 60 miles per hour, but every 3 hours, it must rest for 1 hour.
  • The wyvern flies at 80 miles per hour, but it tires quickly and needs to rest for 30 minutes every hour.
  • The centaur gallops tirelessly at a steady 45 miles per hour.
  • The dire wolf runs in bursts—60 miles per hour for 40 minutes, then it must slow to 20 miles per hour for the next 20 minutes before repeating the cycle.

If the Crystal Peak is exactly 240 miles away, in what order to the creatures arrive?

Feel free to shoot me the answer via Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook. I’ll post it in tomorrow’s Wordle guide. Speaking of which, let’s solve this Wordle!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

This was destined to be a 4-or-more type Wordle. My opening guess left me with just 15 remaining words, but I still took four tries to get the answer. After SPORE, Wordle Bot later told me that I should have guessed HABIT instead of CHAIR. I’m not sure that would have made the difference or not, but it would have killed the letter ‘B’ so I wouldn’t have guessed SCRUB. In any case, all that was left after that was SCRUM—not a word you hear very often!

Competitive Wordle Score

Yet another total wash today. 0 points for guessing in four and 0 for tying the Bot.

March Running Total: 6 points.

Wordle Bot Running Total: -4 points.

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word scrum originates from the sport of rugby, where it is short for scrummage, which itself is an alteration of scrimmage—a term meaning a struggle or confused fight. Scrimmage derives from Middle English skirmish, which comes from Old French eskarmouche, ultimately rooted in the Frankish or Old High German skirmen (“to protect” or “to fight”). In modern usage, scrum has been adopted in business and software development (especially Agile methodologies) to describe a collaborative and iterative approach to teamwork, drawing on its rugby connotations of structured coordination.
