U2 May Be Looking To Extend Their Las Vegas Residency

News Room

U2 opened a new state-of-the-art venue in Las Vegas recently with their first-ever residency, and now it seems the band likes their new home and wants to stay for a while.

According to the New York Post, U2 is considering extending its new residency in Sin City at the brand new high-tech The Sphere venue. The news isn’t confirmed yet, but the sources that spoke to the newspaper claim that the band always had the option to extend the run of shows, and the members are now considering doing so.

The residency, titled U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere, kicked off on September 29, and the streak of concerts was initially scheduled to finish on December 16. Now, the legendary rock group is thinking of tacking on at least a dozen more shows.

Whether the number of additional performances will be an even 12, and when they might be scheduled or announced, is not yet clear. These are just reports, but ones that wouldn’t be too shocking if proved true sometime soon.

Many major musicians have flocked to Las Vegas in the past decade or so as the city has changed its image. It used to be that only those whose touring and radio careers were largely over set up shop in the town, but now, with massive paydays and fans willing to travel to see their favorite acts, it’s become a go-to spot for anyone and everyone to host a residency.

It’s also common for these residencies to announce a run of dates and then extend once things are selling well. Many of the top acts that have produced these types of ongoing shows—such as Adele, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Katy Perry—have added to their initial offerings, sometimes continuing for months or even years after they initially said they’d be done.
