Rated PG, The Unbreakable Boy opened in theaters on Feb. 21. The official summary for the film reads, “When his parents, Scott (Levi) and Teresa (Fahy), learn that Austin (Laval) is both autistic and has brittle bone disease, they initially worry for their son’s future.

“But with Scott’s growing faith and Austin’s incredible spirit, they become “unbreakable,” finding joy, gratitude, and courage even in the most trying times — an extraordinary true story about a father and son learning together that every day can be the best day of your life!”

Written and directed by Jon Gun, The Unbreakable Boy, which is based on a true story, also stars Drew Powell and Peter Facinelli.

According to When to Stream, The Unbreakable Boy is expected to arrive on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Friday, April 4. While When to Stream is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, the streaming tracker noted that the film’s studio, Lionsgate, has not announced or confirmed the release date of The Unbreakable Boy and it is subject to change.

The Unbreakable Boy will be available on a variety of digital platforms, including Prime Video, AppleTV and Fandango at Home. Prime Video currently has The Unbreakable Boy available for pre-order for $14.99, which is a reflection of the film’s purchase price. Since PVOD rentals are typically $5 less than digital purchase prices, viewers can expect to rent the film for $9.99 for a 24-hour period.

How Did Audiences And Critics Receive ‘The Unbreakable Boy’?

According to The Numbers, The Unbreakable Boy earned $5.8 million domestically and $20,000 internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $5.82 million to date. Production budget information for the film was not available.

Rotten Tomatoes critics collectively gave The Unbreakable Boy a 43% “rotten” rating based on 37 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, “The Unbreakable Boy is amiable enough, but it sells its inspirational true story short by taking too many easy routes towards uplift.”

Audiences, meanwhile, a 96% “fresh” rating on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 250-plus rating based 250-plus verified user ratings. RT’s audience summary for the film reads, “The Unbreakable Boy will leave an imprint and tears on anyone seeking life-affirming stories with a message about family and the power of love.”

The Unbreakable Boy is expected to arrive on PVOD on April 4.
