How Walmart CEO Doug McMillon went from unloading Walmart trucks as teen to earning $25.7 million a year while modernizing the company

Long before Doug McMillon became CEO of Walmart, he was a part of the Walmart family.

McMillion started unloading trucks at a Walmart distribution center as a teen. Later, while completing his MBA program, he worked in the athletic department of a local Walmart as a buyer trainee. Soon after, McMillon moved to the Walmart headquarters in his Arkansas hometown.

Since becoming CEO in 2014, McMillon has expanded Walmart’s offerings by launching Walmart+ and modernizing the company with new tech, drone delivery services, and by leveraging generative AI. He has also used his role to address social issues, including by setting up donations to nonprofits to improve racial equity.
