Some 6,400 Secura air fryers sold on sites including Amazon are being recalled for posing a fire and burn risk.

between May 2019 and October 2020 for up to $90, feature a faulty wire connection that can overheat and pose fire and burn hazards, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently warned. The commission knows of at least nine cases of the air fryers catching fire, burning and smoking, but no injuries or property damage have been reported so far.

“We are conducting this recall to keep our [customers] safe and prevent injuries by removing the problem products,” the company wrote in a statement on a website it set up to handle recall questions. “Due to certain manufacturing issues, the affected air fryers may present safety risks. This recall is being made as a precautionary measure.”

The recall involves Secura air fryers with the model number SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E) with date code 1901, as well as fryers with the model number SAF-53 (TXG-DS16) with date codes 1903 and 1904. The affected appliances are black with silver accents, with the name “Secura” at the top of each unit, and the model number and four-digit date code printed on silver labels at the bottom of each product.

Anyone with an affected air fryer should immediately stop using it and contact Secura for either a $45 Amazon gift card or a free replacement from a select list of Secura products that will be provided on the recall site. Shipping costs will be covered by Secura, the company added.

Even if their appliance appears to be safe and operating normally, all customers should still “immediately stop using the air fryer,” the company also noted.

To claim your Amazon gift card or replacement product, you must register your product for recall online, which involves providing your contact information and submitting photos of the recalled unit — with the power cord cut off. And you need to include the product’s date code, which is located at the bottom of the air fryer. You can send the information by email to [email protected], or call the company toll-free at 888-792-2360 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific from Monday to Friday.

If you qualify for a replacement, your new product will be shipped within six to eight weeks, the company said.

More information can also be found at the company’s recall site, or at the Consumer Product Safety Commission site. Secura said it will also be contacting all known purchasers of the affected air fryers.

This is just the latest air-fryer recall. Earlier this year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission also recalled more than 2 million Cosori air fryers over risks that they could overheat and cause a fire. The recall involved several different Cosori air-fryer models sold on Amazon and at Target
