Welcome back to Monday, dearest Strandistas. I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving weekend and is absolutely sick and tired of turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and whatever other leftovers you’ve been stuffing your faces with. We have just over three weeks until Christmas, and only one month before a brand new year. For now, let’s solve today’s Strands grid!
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.

Hint #2: Seriously, the theme gives this one away. You don’t need extra help.

Today’s Strands Breakdown
I admit, I prefer Strands when it gives you more cryptic themes and makes you work a bit harder, but this was still challenging simply because the words were mostly quite long. I found TAXMAN first, then REVOLUTION and then, isolated in the top right corner, HELP. I found the word SONG and figured it must be part of the spangram, so I dug around some more until I uncovered SONGTITLES. The bottom half was just two words, but they were long and a bit trickier to uncover. Once I’d snagged BLACKBIRD, however, YESTERDAY was pretty simple. Queen got one song the other day, with all the words as lyrics to that song. The Beatles get five songs, but it’s not nearly as clever a puzzle.
