EA is working on cross-platform franchise mode, and the closed beta for the expansion is “almost here,” according to an in-game message on all platforms.
According to a previously released FAQ, EA recognizes PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as platforms that will be included in cross-platform play.
The closed beta could be a significant step toward expanding the overall functionality of the mode that much of the community has had a love-hate relationship with for more than a decade.
Football video games are the most franchise-mode-friendly of all sports titles. That’s part of why Madden’s franchise mode has been so frustrating to have lacked customization, presentation elements, and overall depth since the Xbox 360-PS3 days.
Cross-platform play won’t deliver the expanded player, and team customization is still missing in the mode. It won’t bring weekly wrap-up shows, halftime highlights, or other immersive presentation elements. However, it will still be nice to have the option to experience an online franchise mode in Madden with users on multiple platforms.
If I can participate in the closed beta, I’ll be sure to share my experiences.
