Riot Games has revealed Smolder, the newest champion to arrive in League of Legends, along with his abilities and how he is designed to be played.
Smolder is a small little dragon who is designed to be played as an ADC in the bot lane and should be easy to pick up and play for most players. His abilities are basically all about doing damage and killing enemies, which should make him a formidable foe despite his cute looks.
His passive is Dragon Practice, which gives him a stack every time he damages an enemy with a spell or kills an enemy. Each stack increases the damage of his basic abilities, so if you see him pick up a couple of kills, you’ll probably want to run away pretty quickly.
His Q is Super Scorcher Breath, where he belches flames at enemies and deals significant damage to them, which is obviously increased with his passive.
His W is Achooo!, where Smolder sneezes out some fire that will damage and slow any enemies hit by it. If it hits a champion there is a bonus explosion because no one wants to be covered in snot.
His E is Flap, Flap, Flap, where Smolder takes flight for up to 1.25 seconds and ignores terrain, he will also attack the lowest health enemy in range.
Finally, his ult is MMOOOMMMM!, where the little baby dragon calls in his much larger mother to breathe down fire on an area of the map that will damage and slow enemies and heal Smolder if he is inside the flames.
“We wanted to create a cute creature ADC with a more accessible kit than most, especially with Hwei as our last champion release,” said lead producer Lexi Gao. “We ultimately went with a dragon after testing a couple of other cute creature concepts since it seemed to be the most compelling to the rest of the team!”
First impressions seem to be good and fans are already excited for the new champion. I for one can’t wait to give him a try as he seems simple enough for anyone to play but in a fun way where it feels like you can still have an impact on the game.
Smolder is without a doubt one of the cutest champions we have seen in a while in League of Legends, and will no doubt become a fan favourite. However, after Smolder we know we are getting a mid-range-mage solo-laner as the next champion, which was announced in a big dev update earlier today.
