Sonus Faber Unveils Its Suprema Speaker System For A Cool $750,000

News Room

Luxury Italian speaker brand Sonus faber has launched its new Suprema loudspeaker system today at CES. Sonus faber says the new system is “rooted in luxury” and offers “unparalleled audio excellence and meticulous craftsmanship.” The launch of the Suprema coincides with the brand’s 40th anniversary.

The Suprema system costs $750,000 (that’s not a typo) and consists of two main speaker columns, two subwoofers, and a single electronic crossover. Described by Sonus faber as its most ambitious project ever, the Suprema system will be available to order worldwide from today.

The two main speaker columns have a unique lute shape, while the system’s two subwoofers have an elliptical profile. The Suprema’s materials were selected for their characteristics and ability to complement one another. Carbon fiber is used for its durability, while wood was chosen for its harmonic qualities. The construction also uses solid aluminum with multilayer wood for the side panels of the main columns.

The Suprema columns have a leather front panel. Sonus faber has worked with luxury furniture brand Poltrona Frau. Each Suprema speaker system features Poltrona Frau’s Pelle Frau Impactless leather, made with a chromium-free tanning process launched in 2022. In addition to Suprema’s four-column system comprising two main speaker columns and two subwoofer cabinets, the system also has an external electronic crossover unit.

Each Superma column has a 4/5-way driver system with eight front-firing speakers plus two back-firing drivers. The configuration of tweeters and a midrange features three new elements – a brand new Camila midrange with cellulose pulp diaphragm, one new mid-tweeter with treated silk dome, plus a new super tweeter with treated silk dome.

The new Camila midrange used in the Suprema covers the most important part of the acoustic spectrum. The driver was developed to deliver maximum resolution without losing the natural sound of Sonus faber.

A combination of the Camila midrange and tweeters is loaded in a dedicated chamber lined with recycled cork. This natural and sustainable material creates acoustic volume while enhancing the resolution and naturalness of the midrange.

The Suprema’s separate subwoofer system has been engineered to optimize low-range response no matter where the columns are positioned relative to the main columns. The subwoofer has two 38cm transducers with forged carbon fiber membranes and a neodymium magnet motor system to ensure clarity up to 16Hz.

The crossover filters used in the Suprema are partially visible on the sides of the main column. Sonus faber claims it has used the best mix of electroacoustic configurations. Through simulation, testing and listening, Sonus faber says it’s achieved a perfect tonal balance with impeccable timing and soundstage in all three dimensions.

All Suprema’s phase cutting and control circuits are 100% analog and made using selected discrete components. The cabinet houses the power supply, which is enclosed in a solid aluminum case, while the audio signal is protected in a lacquered wooden enclosure.

Pricing & Availability: The Sonus faber Suprema is available to order and costs $750,000 / £695,000.
