Canada Goods-Trade Surplus Widens to C$2.97B in October

OTTAWA–Canada’s merchandise-trade surplus with the rest of the world widened in October to the largest in 16 months as exports to countries other than the U.S. rose and imports declined.

The country posted a goods-trade surplus for the month of 2.97 billion Canadian dollars, the equivalent of about $2.18 billion, Statistics Canada said Wednesday. The consensus forecast wasn’t immediately available.

September’s surplus was revised down to $1.12 billion from an earlier estimate of C$2.04 billion.

Exports edged up 0.1% to C$65.98 billion in October, while imports fell 2.8% to C$63.01 billion, the data agency said.
