Cigna Targets Carbon Neutrality for Ops by 2040

Cigna Group, in its 2022 environmental, social, and governance report which was released Monday, said it is committed to achieving carbon neutrality for operations by 2040.

The health company also said it wants to reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 from a 2019 baseline, as well as source renewable electricity for 100% of its global electricity needs by 2030. In 2022, the company said it reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 44% compared to the 2019 baseline.

Cigna plans to increase indirect diverse supplier spend to $1 billion annually. Last year, Cigna said, it grew its diverse spend by 20% compared to 2021.
