Shure’s Iconic SM7B Microphone Chalks Up 50 Years Of Service

It’s been 50 years since the world’s most popular dynamic mic was launched on the market. The Shure SM7 was unveiled in 1973 and it has endured with an incredible legacy that turned it into one of the best-loved professional broadcasting and voiceover microphones.

Over the years, the SM7 has evolved into the SM7B. It has become one of the most recognizable dynamic microphones on almost every podcast, especially those from North America. The SM7 line is now trusted by some of the most innovative entertainers, artists and creators.

Shure is releasing a super limited edition of just 50 units of a numbered Signature Edition SM7B in a collector’s box set to celebrate its half-century. The box set will be available only through a giveaway in select regions.

The Signature Edition SM7B will feature the engraved signature of S.N. Shure, the founder of Shure Incorporated, and five custom backplates adorned with vintage Shure logos from 1925 to the 1960s. The box set will include custom packaging, a limited-print SM7B poster, a heritage booklet, and an alternate screw set carrying the classic Shure logo.

Whether it’s big-time broadcasting, professional podcasts, streaming or critical studio recordings on iconic albums like Thriller, the legendary SM7B has built a reputation for capturing smooth, warm vocals while enhancing the finer details of the human voice and blocking distractions. While the SM7 line hasn’t changed much over the previous five decades, it continues to be used by creators and has created a legacy all its own.
