Animoca Brands Japan, in collaboration with its KLKTN subsidiary, has announced a partnership with Cool Cats Group to venture into the Japanese anime market through web3 integration.
In a recent announcement, Animoca Brands Japan disclosed its acquisition of equity shares in Cool Cats Group as part of the partnership.
Additionally, KLKTN, a digital experience label under Animoca, purchased NFTs from all three collections of Cool Cats from the secondary market.
The NFT acquisition occurred through San FranTokyo, KLKTN’s virtual “decentralized city” that focuses on licensed anime and web3 intellectual property.
“This partnership is more than just about business growth,” said Daisuke Iwase, the CEO of Animoca Brands Japan.
“It’s about cultural exchange, understanding, and tapping into the essence of what makes Japan’s digital and artistic realm so globally appealing. Animoca Brands Japan together with San FranTokyo are excited to create more opportunities for the Cool Cats IP to grow.”
In addition to the NFT acquisition, the partnership also includes several other initiatives.
For one, the trio aims to create “Cool Cats Manga,” which would merge the Cool Cats universe with Japan’s renowned manga tradition. The manga will be written and illustrated by a Japanese manga artist.
Cool Cat to Expand in Japan
The partnership aims to expand the Cool Cats brand within Japan through various channels.
Animoca Japan and San FranTokyo will work on growing the Cool Cats IP and establish new relationships with prominent organizations in the Japanese entertainment and IP sectors.
To further the integration, the Cool Cats IP narrative will be woven into the virtual city of San FranTokyo.
This initiative will include interactive efigurine drops and align with marketing efforts for other iconic Japanese IPs, according to a press release from Animoca Brands.
“Our partnership with Cool Cats and Animoca Brands Japan is more than strategic — it’s visionary,” David Taing, co-founder of San FranTokyo and co-chief operating officer of KLKTN.
“We’re converging worlds, styles, ideas, industries and technology to bring forth new levels of collaboration much needed in Web3. Our dedication to both Japanese and Web3 IP is unwavering, and together with Animoca Brands Japan, we’re forging a path that will continue to work tirelessly to move the needle forward for Web3.”
Back in September, Animoca Brands raised $20 million to expand its Web3 identity project Mocaverse.
The funding round was led by venture capital company CMCC Global, with other investors including Kingsway Capital, Liberty City Ventures, GameFi Ventures, Aleksander Larsen (Sky Mavis founder), Gabby Dizon (Yield Guild Games founder), Koda Capital institutional investors, and others.
The company has also announced plans to launch a metaverse ecosystem token on the Bitcoin (BTC) network.
